Lucid | UI Animation

Lucid is a meditation app that aims to offer smart solutions to young adults for stress relief.

About the Project

The primary objective was to design and animate the interface of a meditation app to ensure that motion design was included as part of the concept from the beginning.

For this project, I was provided with low-fidelity wireframes for a meditation app. I curated the UI design in Adobe XD and created storyboards to explore micro-interactions and logo ideas. I brought the intended animations to life using Adobe After Effects.

Lucid’s core values are discovery, clarity & focus. I approached the UI design with these principles in mind, working with a subdued color palette and nature images to create a peaceful ambiance. The logo itself was thoughtfully created to resemble a free falling leaf that transforms into a lotus flower.

For immediate stress relief, the app opens with a prompt inviting the User to take an initial deep breath before they are presented with the meditation selections.

To capture Lucid's spirit, the entire app animation was designed to gradually reveal the UI elements and flow through the screen transitions, immersing users in a calming experience aligned with the core values.

Approach and Challenges

With my background in the wellness industry, I was familiar with similar apps on the market as well as the visual style and language used. This helped tremendously during my market research phase as well as with decisions made for brand values and style fundamentals during the initial design phase.

The process of animating a meditation app intended to be used for stress relief was ironically very stressful. Adobe After Effects is a beast of a program and I have only just begun to learn the capabilities of such a powerful and robust tool. Luckily, the app was there to remind me to take a deep breath and with the guidance of my mentor I learned how to use the tool in a more efficient way and made progress with the project.
